The goals of the Center for Performing Arts Studies are to develop students’ public speaking skills, enhance students’ expressive abilities and develop students’ acting skills. The students’ creative, writing, and physical expression tools will also be cultivated. The studies are taught by professional teachers in acting and movement and are made accessible and adapted to the students’ needs. All courses are taught in or translated into sign language, so that students can reach their full potential.
The curriculum was developed in collaboration with the School of Performing Arts at Kibbutzim College.
First Semester
Acting Class
In the acting class, we will develop the student’s stage presence and physical expression skills. We will learn techniques for working on a character, dramatic situation, and dramatic action, and apply them to work on a monologue. We will also develop our improvisation skills, movement skills, and physical expression of action and desire. In addition, we will develop our creativity by giving personal expression and finding our own personal theatrical language.
Physical Expression in Movement Class
The goal of the movement classes is to give students confidence in their physical expression abilities. During the course, students will become familiar with their abilities and their natural physical language, and will find their unique fingerprint. They will develop the ability to tell a story with the body and awareness of the moving and expressive body. In addition, techniques of physical storytelling and developing the ability to work in a group will be taught, with an understanding of space, focus, working with partners, and listening.
Second Semester
Acting Class
We will continue to develop the various acting techniques and deepen the tools we began to work with in Semester A. We will work on dramatic text, character development, scenes (dialogues and monologues), text analysis, and transforming it into a live scene, with an emphasis on relationships and working with a partner.
Clowning Class
This class deepens the work of physical acting inspired by the qualities of the “clown.” We will develop our comedic, tragic, and physical expression skills. We will learn physical techniques that will create a new language and use of space, body, emotion, and sensations. The meaning of clown work is not just a comedic circus quality. It is part of the clown’s physical and emotional range that allows for new discoveries about the self, the ability to play, and the world.
