The goals of the Center for Performing Arts Studies are to develop students’ public speaking skills, enhance students’ expressive abilities and develop students’ acting skills. The students’ creative, writing, and physical expression tools will also be cultivated. The studies are taught by professional teachers in acting and movement and are made accessible and adapted to the students’ needs. All courses are taught in or translated into sign language, so that students can reach their full potential.
The curriculum was developed in collaboration with the School of Performing Arts at Kibbutzim College.
First Semester
Acting Class
In this class, we will develop our stage presence and physical expression skills.
We will learn techniques for working on a character, dramatic situation, and dramatic action, and apply them to working on a monologue. We will also develop our improvisation skills, movement skills, and physical expression for action and desires. In addition, we will foster creativity through personal expression and finding our own individual theatrical language.
Scenes and physical movement will be described through verbal description.
Movement Class
This class is based on improvisation exercises and tasks to help us become familiar with our physical abilities, gain physical confidence, and enjoy freedom of movement. We will develop the expressive abilities of the body and the ability to tell a story with the body. We will work on developing awareness of the moving, expressive body and learn how to use the body as a tool for expression as an actor on stage.
Second Semester
Acting Class
In the second semester, the acting classes will focus on deepening our theatrical knowledge in terms of stage, scene, mise-en-scène, and working on dialogues. We will acquire additional tools for developing character, dramatic situation, and relationships. We will work with space and time, delve into the use of stage imagery, and work in collaboration with partners.
At the end of the year, there will be a performance on stage in front of an audience.
Voice Development Class
In this course, we will learn to use our voice correctly and develop our musical range and singing skills as actors. The emphasis will be on voice production, breathing exercises, learning about the world of music and singing, and learning various vocal and singing techniques. During the course, we will work on a song as a vocal and acting performance.
