Itzik was born blind and became deaf due to meningitis at the age of 11. At first, Itzik communicated with people through a Braille machine, but he had to carry the machine everywhere, which made it very difficult for him to manage his daily life.
When Itzik was 12 years old, the Loram method (the glove method) was created. In this communication method, each letter is represented by one of the finger joints on the palm of the hand. The speaking person taps Itzik’s palm joints with their finger, thus spelling out what is being said.
Itzik loves to sing, drum and even imitate people.
He says that his life has changed since he arrived at Na Laga’at about 15 years ago, and Na Laga’at is like a home and a family to him. Thanks to the play he participates in, “Not by Bread Alone,” he has made many new friends. Itzik believes that even if there is anger and sadness in life, the wisdom is not to give up. There is always hope to get out of any trouble.
