Assia Uhanany

Assia was born deaf in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She immigrated to Israel with her family at the age of four, and currently lives in central Tel Aviv. Upon her arrival in Israel, Assia learned Israeli Sign Language, which opened up a whole new visual world for her.

Assia is a model who won the title of “Miss Deaf World 2018” at the Miss and Mr. Deaf World pageant in Prague, Czech Republic. She volunteered for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and after her military service, began working as a waitress at the Azrieli Towers. In 2009, Assia joined Na Laga’at as a waitress, bartender and shift manager.

Assia currently plays the lead role in the play “Children of a Lesser God” at the Na Laga’at Theater.
