Shuki Assouline is deaf from birth. He was born into a hearing family where verbal communication was the primary method, but over the years Shuki learned sign language, which he now considers his native language. Shuki is married and has two hearing children.
Shuki discovered his love for theater in a drama club at school. Inspired by these classes, he decided to join a community theater and take a course in becoming a theater instructor. He then traveled to Washington D.C. to study English and acting at Gallaudet University, a university for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. Upon returning to Israel, Shuki decided to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Directing and Education at the Kibbutzim College of Education. He also directed the play “Whipped Cream,” which was performed in various locations around the world. Currently, he works as a theater teacher in various schools and acts in the play “Deaf Conversation,” which takes place once a month at the center.
